Growing pea shoots is not only a great way to get some extra nutrition into your system but it’s also super easy too! All you need is a box of dry marrowfat peas from the supermarket, a container and some compost. I like to use fruit/veg punnets for these as they’re a nice size and if you use clear punnets then you can watch the roots growing too!

Ideally you want to soak your peas in lukewarm water for a few hours or even over night. Half fill your container with compost and bring indoors to warm up (bring more in for covering the peas with). The punnets I’ve used don’t have drainage holes in them which makes them ideal for sitting on the window sill but make sure not to over water.
After your peas have soaked simply spread them in the tray and then cover with more compost. After a week you should start seeing them popping through the surface. When they reach about 10cm high (approx 4 weeks from sowing) they’re ready for the first harvest! Snip down to a leaf making sure to leave at least half to grow on. You should get 2 harvests out of each sowing and possibly even 3.
