Well hasn’t this month just flown by! I’ve not been to the plot as much as I’d have liked to due to doing some decorating at home but overall I’m happy with where we’re at. There’s lots of clearing still to do on both the beds and greenhouses and I need to tidy out my shed and sort the compost area but there’s plenty time to get those jobs done.

My garlic is growing nicely and I’ve managed to clear the long bed which is destined for next years potatoes! I haven’t tidied too much yet as there has been so many ladybirds on the plot especially on my bean and sweetcorn plants. I’m tempted to leave the plants till Spring if they don’t blow over beforehand. This winter I’m going to make some ladybird houses for both the plot and the garden. I’ll share a little tutorial once I’ve made them. Hopefully they will prove popular with the ladybirds.
I’ve had a bit of a tidy in the garden, cutting back perennials and mulching the borders. The weather has had a lot of plants very confused. My calendula are still flowering, the roses are on their second flush and I have so much new growth appearing on shrubs. Towards the end of the month the weather has cooled significantly though which in reality is a good thing as it’s much more seasonal now. annoyingly our fence has blown in the last storm and needs replacing before it falls down! Hoping it holds until after Christmas.

I harvested my first ever parsnips this month! I’ve tried growing them twice before and had no luck but this year we have huge success! My biggest so far is a whopping 754.5g! I used fresh parsnip seeds which seems to have made all the difference as well as planting into a deep bed filled with Rocket Gro Fruit & Veg Compost
At the end of the month I had a delivery of woodchip so I’ve covered 1/3 of my paths with a fresh layer and it’s amazing the difference it’s made to the plot already. My next plot visit I’m going to mulch my gooseberry bed and fill my tubs with fresh compost. Lots of planning still to do for next Spring but I’m super excited for what the next growing season holds.

To end the month we’ve had a dusting of snow! Winter is well and truly here. Stay cosy everyone.
